On the 26th of February, Adj. Prof. Kaija Collin and Soila Lemmetty, University of Jyväskylä, Finland, gave a public talk as part of the Creativity and Innovation Lecture Series organized by the Webster Center of Creativity and Innovation (WCCI).

Their lecture, titled “Creativity and Learning at the Workplace”, explored the bi-directional relationship between these phenomena within episodes of problem solving at work. In this talk, the presenters argued that learning in organizational contexts no longer implies taking courses or other formal training, but the ongoing assessment and implementation of one’s own or the teams’ learning needs, goals and practices. This is especially the case in knowledge-intensive organizations where concepts such as ‘autonomous learning’ and ‘self-directed learning’ become particularly important and support ‘creative activities’ at the workplace. Examples from empirical studies were brought to illustrate these points.
